IRON MOUNTAIN - Approximately 1,200 WeEnergies customers in Iron Mountain lost power shortly after 5 a.m. today.
Brain Manthey, spokesperson for We Energies, said 1,170 customers were without power at 5:15 a.m. Friday when lightning struck equipment on a utility pole.
The outage affected customers from the Iron Mountain High School north and east, including Carpenter Avenue, B and C Streets, beyond Stockbridge to Kimberly Avenue, Grand Boulevard and Millie Street.
Stop lights on Carpenter Avenue were also out due to the outage.
"About 1,000 customers came back on at 7:15 a.m. Another 100 or so a half hour later, and everybody except one customer was restored as of 8:10 a.m.," Manthey said.
The last customer restored by 9 a.m. today was Iron Mountain High School.
The cause of the outage was lightning-related.
Crews re-routed power from other lines to get the power restored.
