CRYSTAL FALLS - Plenty of activities are planned for Crystal Falls' inaugural Summer Fest this weekend.
In years past, Crystal Falls held a Harvest Fest in the fall. Since the weather has been less than ideal at that time of year, organizers decided to move the event to the summer.
Summer Fest kicks off on Friday at 6 p.m. with the "Sounz of Time" outdoor concert on the Crystal Falls River Walk.
Downtown activities on Saturday start at 8 a.m. with an antique and crafters flea market.
Throughout the day, there will be guided tours of the Crystal Theatre, hot dogs and brats at the Harbour House, and face painting.
Swallowtail will perform Celtic music from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Last Minute Preparation will perform teen music at 1 p.m.
At 3 p.m., the "Grillin' on the Hill" competition begins downtown.
All participants must pre-register and bring their own charcoal grill or smoker. The panel of judges includes Charlie Steele of the MacDonald House, Pat Sommers of Sommers Sausage and Deli, and Larry Bortolini of the Raven's Nest. First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded.
To close out the night, Ironland will perform live music at the Crystal Falls VFW Hall at 7 p.m.
On Sunday, Bill and Kate Isles with Loy Larson will be the featured performers at the historic Crystal Theatre beginning at 3 p.m.
