Today an employee from the city of Kingsford stopped at my home asking me why my flag was upside down. When he did not like my answer, he told me to have it upside down was illegal.
I informed him he was incorrect, and wished him a nice day.
I trust this misinformed employee of mine takes the time to read the flag code the next time he is not doing his job description on the city's time. For his benefit it can be found at United States Code Title 36 Chapter 10.
Does this employee waste time and resources confronting wet flag owners, or owners of unlit flags at night for example?
I doubt it and I hope not. I believe this time-wasting public servant disagrees with my belief that our federal governments actions in recent years clearly meet the threshold of Section 8a of the United States Flag Code, "The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property."
If this gentleman would like to stop by and discuss the merits of my distress he is welcome to at anytime that he is not on the clock.
