Escanaba man sentenced to 25 to 40 years in prison

ESCANABA - An Escanaba man was sentenced to 25 to 40 years in prison in Delta County Circuit Court Friday on four counts of criminal sexual conduct.

Robert Jason Turner, 35, of 4464 12th Road, Escanaba, was found guilty after a jury trial in April for assaulting a female minor and having sexual contact with her during incidents from 2002-2010 in Ford River Township.

Turner was sentenced Friday to 25 to 40 years in prison on two counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct with a person under 13.

He was also sentenced to 15 to 40 years in prison on one count of first degree criminal sexual conduct - relationship, and 71 months to 15 years in prison on one count of second degree criminal sexual conduct with a person under 13. All sentences are to be served concurrently. Turner was given credit for 114 days already served.

Prior to his sentencing, Turner maintained his innocence and asked for a lenient sentence, claiming he is not a bad person.
