IRON MOUNTAIN - The American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Dickinson and Iron Counties will be held Friday, June 7, and Saturday, June 8, from noon to noon at the Iron Mountain High School Stadium.
Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society's signature event, dedicated to increasing awareness and raising funds to fight cancer.
It is a fun and unique way for people to raise money for the battle against cancer, help to save lives and create more birthday's right in their own communities, said Danny Pietrantonio, committee member.
Relay For Life will be held Friday and Saturday at the Iron Mountain High School Stadium. A silent auction will be held on Saturday. Annette Heller, committee member, is asking for donations. Jeri’s Quilt Patch of Norway donated lap size quilts made with Laurel Burch Fabrics and quilted bags. Here, Heller is shown here with a quilt.
Teams of family, friends and co-workers camp out overnight, taking turns walking the Mountaineer track.
During the event, participants and visitors have a chance to celebrate the victory of area cancer survivors during the Survivors Lap at 7:30 p.m.; remember those who have lost their battle to the disease during the poignant Luminaria Ceremony at 9:30 p.m.; and participate in the Fight Back Ceremony on Saturday that gives everyone a chance to proclaim their way of taking action against the disease, Pietrantonio said.
This year's theme will be fighting cancer "Around the World."
