I would like to recognize everyone who helped plan and organize, participated in and attended the 2013 Upper Peninsula Peace Officer Memorial held in Norway on May 15, 2013. The Memorial honors peace officers in the Upper Peninsula, Wisconsin, and Canada who have been killed in the line of duty. Two families who have lost a loved one, Officer Kenneth Moraska and Trooper Rick Johnson, attended the Memorial and were very appreciative that their loved ones are still being remembered.
The Norway High School Choir and Jazz Choir were outstanding, and the audience was truly moved by their performance. The planning committee applauds Northern Star Industries Inc., Mike and Lisa Richards, Norway-Vulcan Kiwanis, Standard Printing Company, and Miller Floral who assisted with the costs to put on this event. "Hats off" to Christine Schmidt for a delicious meal for the officers and families after the event. The Norway School was very accommodating and helped throughout the planning process. Also, we would like to recognize Recreation Lanes for letting us use your parking lot before the large procession to the Memorial.
Judge Christopher Ninomya was an eloquent speaker not only remembering fallen officers, but the officers who are out there daily protecting and serving the public. A plaque was presented to Dickinson County Law Enforcement from the St. Ignace Chief of Police. This plaque will be at the five Dickinson County police agencies during the next year; so, take the opportunity to view the plaque and honor the fallen officers.
