ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Jacquelyn A. "Jackie" Smith, 60, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 8, 2013, after a long battle with breast and bone cancer at Palm Terrace Care Facility in St. Petersburg surrounded by her loving care workers.
She was born Feb. 18, 1953, in Iron Mountain to the late Emil and Wilna (Raboin) DeClark.
She is survived by her daughter, Kelly Smith; stepson, Mathew Cournoyer; and two grandchildren, Zackary and Emlyn Verbrigghe; her sisters, Tedi (John) Scully and Bobbi (Mike) Campbell; her brother, Mark (Kathie) DeClark; sister-in-law, Marge DeClark; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert L. Smith; her significant other, Robert Cournoyer; and her brother, Gary DeClark.
Jackie graduated from Niagara High School in 1971, and shortly after met her husband Albert. They were married May 13, 1972.
They loved to camp and fish. After losing their jobs in the U.P., they packed up and hit the road in their motor home and traveled all over the south, finally settling in Crystal River, Fla.
Upon the death of Albert, she moved to Webster, Fla. where she met Robert and Mathew. There she found a joy in organizing flea markets and bike shows and baking the best sticky buns around, which is what she did until she was unable to work. Her hobbies then became crocheting and reading.
A burial service will be held in Rudyard, Mich.
