CHANNING - Apolonia Haas, 90, of Channing, passed away on Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, surrounded by her family at the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas.
She was born on May 10, 1922, in Channing, daughter of the late John and Apolonia (Conder) Zager. After graduating from Channing High School, she moved to Chicago to work as a nanny. She married Frederick Haas on March 3, 1942, and he preceded her in death on March 24, 1989. Together they moved to Milwaukee where she raised her four children. When he retired in 1974, they moved back to the home where she was born in Channing.
In addition to her husband, Apolonia was preceded in death by her parents; and her two brothers, Joseph and John Zager.
During the last 30 years she traveled extensively throughout the United States, spending her winters in Texas and Nevada with her daughters and granddaughters. Apolonia's greatest love was her family and she has left them with a wonderful legacy of love, leadership, generosity and faith. She was the "energizer bunny" for her family and the glue that held them together. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Apolonia or "Apples" as she was fondly known by family and friends is survived by her four children, Charlene Lee and her husband, Glenn of Frisco, Texas, Fred Haas and his wife Jean of Channing, Cheryl Haas of Las Vegas, and Vivian Persinger and her husband Dennis of Henderson, Nevada; six grandchildren, Cheryl Persinger of Las Vegas, Christine Persinger of Henderson, Nevada, Russell Lee and his wife Charisse of Canton, Conn., Jeanette Cauley and her husband Bob of Red Granite, Wis., Jamie Sullivan of Hesperia, Calif., Janet Jauquet and her husband Paul of Sagola; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Grace Presbyterian Church in Sagola. The funeral service will follow Friday at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. David Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in the Channing Cemetery. Apolonia's family will serve as Pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.
