ROCKFORD, Ill. - Iron Mountain's Cory Cootware made his first appearance of the 2013 race season by driving his newly prepared Allison Legacy race car to an exciting late race duel for the win at Rockford Speedway.
At the end of the 20-lap main event, it was the Michigan teen-ager outlasting Machesney Park veteran Dwight Dunlap for the trophy.
"It was a night of unknowns for our race team," Cootware said.

Iron Mountain’s Cory Cootware raced into victory lane with a new car at Rockford (Ill.) Speedway.
Cootware came to Rockford on Friday hoping to test his race car. However, rain canceled that practice session.
"So, my first time in the car came from our hot lap session the night of the race," Cootware said. "Overall, I would say we did well, thanks to the efforts of several team members."
Cootware heads for Illiana Speedway in Schererville, Ind., as the points leader of the Mid West Allison Legacy touring series Saturday, June 1.
