Katia Lief's latest novel features husband and wife private investigators Mac MacLeary and Karin Schaeffer.

"The Money Kill" (Harper/338 pages) draws the two into a messy investigation of marital infidelity which takes them from New York to England and, finally, the beautiful island of Sardinia in what was promised to be a family vacation with just a bit of investigative work on the side.

As Mac suspends his surveillance of a suspected philandering husband, billionaire Godfrey Millerhausen, to investigate a bit of money laundering in England, he receives notice that their children, son Ben and adopted daughter Dathi, office assistant Mary and her son Fremont, who had gone ahead of the couple to Sardinia, are missing.

Mac and Karin suspect they have been kidnapped and find themselves involved in a domestic dispute that is downright deadly for the MacLearys.

Katia Lief writes a good crime thriller and the descriptions of Sardinia are breathtaking, though this reviewer hopes she can keep the help of the MacLeary household healthy in the future.
