MARQUETTE - In Kingsford's first track and field action since March, Carlee Benzie collected a pair of wins at the Superior Dome Invitational Tuesday.
Benzie won the 55-meter dash (7.70) and long jump (16-0) for the Flivvers girls, which took fifth overall in the 12-team meet. Benzie also ran a leg of the Flivvers' victorious 800-meter relay. Benzie, Amber Larson, Hannah Tresedder and Emma Williams posted a winning time of 1:56.61 in that event.
"Carlee just blew everyone out of the block, came out quick and explosive in the 55," coach Lisa Harry said. "And she looked really good in the long jump with her experience to kind of be able to step in there to pop off some nice jumps. It was a great start to the season."

Kingsford’s Cole Tengesdahl (second from left) and Reed Larson (right) hit the line during the 55-meter dash Tuesday at the Superior Dome.
Benzie also collected a second in the 200 (28.58). Hannah Tresedder added a sixth in high jump (4-4).
The Flivvers totaled 39.33 points, just three points back from third place. Marquette collected 124 points to easily outdistance runner-up Sault Ste. Marie (59.33) and third place Negaunee (42.33) and fourth place Escanaba (42).
"Point wise we were right in there," Harry said. "It was close. Overall I thought we did quite well. I was happy with the 12 teams there. It was quite competitive, and we were able to do some things.
Kingsford's boys wound up sixth Tuesday, their 35 points trailing winner Gladstone (101), Menominee (69), Marquette (49), Escanaba (41) and Negaunee (39) in the 11-team field.
Coach Doug Roberts was encouraged by the showing.
"We were not that far off from finishing third," he said. "We dropped the baton in the 4x2 relay, and we could have easily got more points in a couple other events."
Cole Tengesdahl (6.83) and Reed Larson (7.12) went second and sixth in the 55-meter dash for Kingsford. Brody Sundquist (25.04) and Tengesdahl (25.06) finished fourth and fifth in the 200.
Ed Sexton added a third in the 55 hurdles (8.65), Tyler Roberts was fourth in the 400 (56.8), and Austin Stanchina took 6th in the 800 (2:19.67.) There was no discus for defending U.P. champ Hilden Beaudoin, but he did take sixth in the shot put (39-10). Dan Fleming collected fifth in the pole vault (10-0), and Larson went fifth in the long jump (18-5).
The Flivvers home meet for Thursday was canceled, but the team expects to compete at Menominee next Thursday.
Complete previews on both the Flivvers boys and girls will run in Thursday's Daily News.
