HUMBOLDT - Investigation was continuing today into a domestic dispute in Humboldt Township, which occurred Thursday night, leaving a 50-year-old Champion woman dead, presumably shot by a Michigan State Police trooper.
The names of those involved in the incident were not released this morning, with more information expected to be made public later today.
Michigan State Police troopers from the Negaunee regional post said the shooting occurred at about 6:05 p.m. Thursday at a home in Humboldt Township. A trooper and a Marquette County Sheriff's Office deputy responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic dispute was in progress involving a firearm.
When police arrived at the residence, officers were confronted by an armed female, according to a news release issued by the state police.
Police said the investigation to determine exactly what happened next was continuing, but initial indications showed the trooper fatally shot the woman.
No information was provided by police this morning on whether anyone else was injured in the incident, what the initial domestic dispute was about and who it involved or the current status of the police officers involved in the shooting.
Personnel from the Grayling Forensic Science Lab were assisting detectives at the scene Thursday night. Bell Hospital and Republic EMS also provided assistance.
