BREITUNG TOWNSHIP - Carla Ann Winkler, 65, of Breitung Township, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2013, at her home surrounded by family after a lengthy battle with brain cancer.
She was born May 16, 1947, in Rhinelander, Wis., daughter of Valeria (Denton) and the late Robert Rhode. She attended school in Rhinelander, graduating from Rhinelander High School. She went on to receive her associate's degree in cosmetology and electrolysis.
Carla moved to Spread Eagle, Wis. in 1974. She owned and operated Carla's Electrolysis and Beauty Salon for many years. She was a member of the National Ski Patrol for many years at the Pine Mountain Ski Resort.
Carla married H. Christian Winkler on July 14, 2001, in Iron Mountain, and together they spent nearly 12 wonderful years. She loved the outdoors, skiing, living on the Menominee River, and spending time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Rhode; and a nephew, Michael A. Rhode.
Carla is survived by her husband, H. Christian Winkler of Breitung Township; her daughters, Erika A. Justus of Kingsford, and Lauren Justus (Luke Lavin) of Milwaukee; brothers, Michael C. (Mary) Rhode of Rhinelander, Mark (Enedelia) Rhode of Fayetteville, N.C., Robert (Lisa) Rhode of Lake Tomahawk, Wis., and Charles Rhode of Mosinee, Wis.; a sister, Lauren (El) Felton of Rhinelander; and 11 nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
The celebration of Carla's life will follow Sunday at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.
