Flivvers, Wykons open track and field season

Benzie takes three firsts; West Iron girls win meet

EAGLE RIVER, Wis. - Kingsford's Carlee Benzie was a triple individual winner, while West Iron County's girls captured the overall team victory at a season-opening high school track and field meet, held indoors at Northland Pines high school Tuesday.

Benzie posted wins in the 55 dash (7.85), 200 (29.09) and long jump (15-10.00). Teammates Hannah Tresedder and Jaelyn Jennings also chalked wins. Tresedder won the 400 (1:08.06), while Jennings took the 200 hurdles (34.46).

West Iron got wins from Emilie Christiansen in the high jump (4-06.00) and Megan Miatech in the shot put (34-07.75).

The Wykons' winning point total of 98 was boosted by 15 top five finishes, including second place efforts by Rebekah Serbinski in the 1600, Cassilyn Pellizer in the 400, Ally Jo Polich in the 200 hurdles, Kyle Erickson in the 800, Carli Johnson in the 200, Ashley Capadagli in the pole vault, and Christensen in triple jump.

Kingsford finished second to the Wykons with 84 points. Helping the point total for the Flivvers were the 800 and 1600 relays teams which both placed second. Benzie, Andrea Roell, Ali VanRemortel and Emma Williams ran the 800, while Roell, Tresedder, Jennings and Amber Larson covered the 1600.

On the boy's side, Kingsford wound up third with 87.5 points and West Iron fifth with 46 points.

Nick Maycunich produced a win in the high jump for Kingsford with a 5-08. Maycunich added a second in the 200 hurdles. Lucas Jennings was second for the Flivvers in the 800, and Ryan Camp placed second in the pole vault.

For West Iron, Tyler Stafford was second in the 55 and third in the long jump. Chasz Jonet finished second in the shot put, and the Wykons 1600 relay team of Joe Pisoni, Colton Pangrazzi, Brandon Olson and Ryan Rogers took second.
