NORWAY - Lorraine S. Cook, 87, of Norway, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Felch on Nov. 23, 1925, the daughter of the late William and Esther (Hanson) Cook.

Lorraine graduated from Felch High School in 1944. Following her graduation, she moved to lower Michigan where she worked at a ball bearing factory during the war. She then moved to Green Bay where she attended business college. After graduation, she worked in the corporate offices of the A & P Grocery Store and then for the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, which at the time was the insurance company of the Green Bay Packers.

Lorraine enjoyed this job, as she was able to meet many of the Packers players and coach Vince Lombardi. She became a great fan of the Packers and would always try to watch the games when they were playing.

In 1970 Lorraine moved back to Iron Mountain to work as a payroll clerk for Lakeshore until she retired in 1987. During her retirement, Lorraine was active in the Hospital Auxiliary, helping to make crafts for its annual bazaar. She also served as a volunteer librarian at the VA Hospital. Lorraine was very talented at needle point, cross stitching, knitting, crocheting, and rosemaling. Lorraine also volunteered as a reading buddy at East Elementary. She always kept up to date on the news and politics.

Lorraine is survived by two brothers, Carlton (Betty) Cook of Felch, and Ed (Myrna) Cook of Iron River; 11 nieces and nephews, William (Patti) Cook, Bernard (Brenda) Cook, Robert (Charlene) Cook, Ann-Louise (Jeff) Ebert, Sharon (Steve) Opolka, Steven Crisp, Monte Crisp, Linda Ramage, Andrew (Linda) Zamot, Penny (Jody) Hanold, and Paul Overacker; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Overacker; and two brothers, Bernard and Russell Cook.

Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church. Services will follow Saturday at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. Joel Smeby will officiate. Burial will be in the Felch Cemetery.
