IRON MOUNTAIN - Dickinson County plans to borrow up to $500,000 to upgrade its 911 emergency dispatch system.
Payment will be guaranteed by proceeds from a recently approved county-wide millage. The Dickinson County Board of Commissioners on Monday authorized Controller Kay Pascoe to contact legal counsel for the sale of revenue bonds to finance the new equipment.
"We're putting this on a fast track," said Henry Wender, board chairman. Wender said interest rates for the short-term borrowing have been projected at 3.125 percent or lower.
Commissioner John Degenaer Jr. said it's best to proceed now, since rising equipment prices would outweigh any savings in interest costs.
