July 2, 2014
Associated Press

INKSTER, Mich. (AP) — Michigan State Police say a shooting in a Detroit suburb Tuesday night killed a 2-year-old and injured two others, including a second child.

Public information officer Lt. Mike Shaw says one shooter fired multiple times at three people who were outside a home. The Inkster police got word of the shooting around 8:35 p.m.

A 2-year old died at the scene. Shaw says a 12-year-old was hospitalized in critical condition, and a 30-year-old was hospitalized in stable condition.

Shaw says police are canvassing the neighborhood and do not yet have a motive. The suspect is believed to have fled on foot.

He says police are withholding the identities of the victims until all family members have been notified.
