Second Sunday Folk Dance features Chicago folk singer

February 9, 2013
The Daily News

CRYSTAL FALLS - On Sunday, Chicago-based folk singer Mark Dvorak will be the featured guest at the Second Sunday Folk Dance in Crystal Falls.

The concert begins at 4 p.m. with hosts Bette and Dean Premo (White Water) performing a short set along with Carrie, Emma, and Susan Dlutkowski. Dvorak's concert will follow immediately. His concerts combine the familiar and the new and include traditional folk tunes and standards from the American songbook. He plays authentic country blues guitar and great old-time banjo.

After the concert, snacks and beverages will be served and the dance part of the evening begins with Bette Premo and The Front Parlor Dance Band playing tunes and providing dance instruction until 7 p.m. For those who want to make music, fiddler Bob Arthur will lead an old-time music jam session starting at 1 p.m. at the dining hall. Admission is $7 for adults and children under 15 are free.

The Chicago Tribune calls Mark Dvorak "masterful," while Sing Out! Magazine says, "Dvorak shines." He has an encyclopedic knowledge of traditional songs and he mixes in his own well-crafted and often poignant originals. Dvorak enjoys involving his audiences in sing- along songs as well. He continues to be an integral member of the faculty at Chicago's venerable Old Town School of Folk Music where he has taught thousands of students. His performances are funny, passionate, intimate and unforgettable.

Lodging in either high-comfort or rustic accommodations is available at Fortune Lake Camp.
