RAPID RIVER - Lexi Gussert scored a school-record 50 points and Forest Park thumped Rapid River 91-30 in Skyline Conference girls basketball.

Gussert, going up against a box-and-one defense, tallied 19 points in the second quarter to lift the Lady Trojans to a 60-14 halftime lead. The junior netted eight points in the first quarter, 11 in the third and 12 in the fourth.

Forest Park connected on 11 of 24 three-point field goals, with 10 in the first half.

"What really opened it up was our three-point shooting," Forest Park Coach Jeff Syrjanen said. "A lot of our guards hit threes and wiped out that box-and-one."

Gussert, Kelsi Hendrickson, Sam Nylund, Maria Stankewicz and Adel Isaacson led the first-half triple assault.

"We had too much power," Syrjanen said.

Gussert added eight rebounds, seven steals and three assists. Stankewicz chipped in 10 points.

Gussert erased the previous school scoring record, for boys or girls, set by Kim Hautala with 46.

Forest Park (13-0 overall, 9-0 Skyline) hosts Carney-Nadeau on Monday.

Forest Park's junior varsity also remained unbeaten with a 42-18 victory.
