CARNEY - A seventh grade student from Carney-Nadeau School was taken into custody for possession of a dangerous weapon on school property.
Sgt. Brian Helfert, school resource officer/juvenile crime investigator for the Menominee County Sheriff's Department, received a call from the school at 8:33 a.m. Wednesday that a student reportedly had brought a knife to school and had told some students that he was going to kill another student.
Upon the officer's arrival, staff members had located the student and secured him in an office.
The knife, a butcher knife with a blade measuring nearly eight inches, had been located by staff members and was locked in an another office, thus putting the students out of danger.
Sheriff Kenny Marks credits the students who reported the incident and to the staff members for their efforts in locating and securing both the student and the knife.
The case will be forwarded to Menominee County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, officials said.
