KINGSFORD - Richard W. Barr, 87, of Kingsford, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2012, at Dickinson County Hospital from injuries sustained from an automobile accident.
He was born in Iron Mountain on Sept. 13, 1925; son of the late Charles and Helen (Venske) Barr.
He served his country honorably enlisting into the United States Navy during WWII. He loved golf and bowling but his biggest love was the Chicago Cubs and baseball. He tried out to be a pitcher for the Chicago Cubs before he enlisted in service.
He was all set to advance further in try outs and training with the Cubs when he left to serve instead. He never tried out again when he returned after serving two terms in the U.S. Navy.
The Cubs were always his very favorite after that.
Richard is survived by his two daughters, Cindy Minard and Vicki Moore; 10 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and numerous extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nadine; his son Christopher; daughter, Noreen; beloved long-time companion, Alice Weaver: and four sisters, Pearl Hirte, Jeanette Thibo, Charlette Warnell, and Marilyn Panice.
A private Memorial will be held at the time of burial at a later date.
