WALLACE, Mich. - Judy Ann Nerat, 64, of Wallace, Mich. passed away on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012.
She was born in Daggett, Mich. on Aug. 12, 1948, to the late Leo and Irene (Milbeck) Kaczmarczyk.
Judy graduated from Stephenson High School with the class of 1966. Judy was the owner-operator of Judy's Beauty Salon. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Birch Creek, Mich.
Judy served as a Menominee County Road Commissioner, and served as chair person of the Commission Community and chair person of the Self Insurance Fund for the County Road Commission Association.
She was credited with implementing snowplow safety in area schools and was the first elected female State Representative of the Upper Peninsula, serving for Michigan's 108th District.
She loved her grandchildren the most and also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, canning and making homemade sausage. Judy also liked to exercise by running, riding her bike and rollerblading.
Judy is survived by her daughter, Heidi (Silverio) Mirao of DePere; her son, Scott (Justine) Nerat of Wallace; their father, Robert Nerat, also of Wallace; five grandchildren, Colin, Elizabeth, Silverio, Antonio and Roberto; two sisters, Shirley (Marvin) Glyzewski of Gilbert, Ariz., and Donna (Toby) Oreshoski of Menominee; one brother, Robert (Phyllis) Kaczmarczyk of Stephenson; and many other family members and friends.
Along with her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her sister, Gloria Kult; and her brother, Leo Kaczmarczyk Jr.
Friends may call at the Cadieu-Thielen Funeral Home on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
We will then go to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Birch Creek and celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 2 p.m. Fr. Corey Litzner will preside along with Deacon Tom Rivard.
A memorial fund has been established in Judy's name.
