KINGSFORD - Doris M. Langkawel, 90, of Kingsford, Michigan passed away on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012 at Dickinson County Hospital System in Iron Mountain.
She was born on Oct. 20, 1922, in Muskegon, Mich., daughter of the late Ernest and Freda (Larson) Swartz. Doris married Robert Langkawel on Jan. 8, 1945, in Muskegon. The couple moved to this area in 1964. Doris worked at Eagle Tool in Kingsford for over 20 years.
She was an active member of First Covenant Church and served as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, deaconess and was active with the Covenant Women. Doris also served as a volunteer at the Breen Senior Citizen Center. In addition to her volunteering, she has enjoyed gardening and quilting. In recent years, Doris has been the organizer and hostess of her Christmas party which she held annually at Evergreen Assisted Living.
Doris is survived by two sons, Robert (Hope) Langkawel of Northport, Ala. and Joseph (Rosemary) Langkawel of Naples, Fla.; two daughters, Lynda (Robert) Sherwood of Corunna, Mich. and Pamela (Kenneth) Stenfors of Menomonee Falls, Wis.; grandchildren, Rob Sherwood, Shannon (Bill) Jones, Robert Gus (Gretchen) Langkawel, Russell (Michelle) Langkawel, Jen (John) Pluta, Krissa Ellis and Tina Stenfors; great-grandchildren, Morgan, Karis and Robert Langkawel, Luke, Andrew and Nicholas Langkawel, Jack, Rachel, Alex and Ben Pluta and Tyler Schuls. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Robert on May 17, 1999; and her brother, Allan Swartz.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at First Covenant Church in Iron Mountain.
Memorial services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. Peter Erickson will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in the Homestead-Aurora Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to First Covenant Church or the Alaska Bible College.
