CRYSTAL FALLS - A Caspian man was injured Monday in a one-vehicle accident in Iron County's Hematite Township.

The crash occurred at 8:03 a.m. on U.S. 141 near the Net River.

Sgt. Wade Cross of the Iron County Sheriff's Department said that 44-year-old Anthony Zarcone of Caspian was driving an empty Gunville Trucking semi-truck north on U.S. 141 when he lost control of the vehicle.

"The truck crossed the roadway and spun around, leaving the road traveling backward," Sgt. Cross explained. "The loss of control caused the tractor to violently strike the trailer in a jack knife fashion before coming to rest against trees."

Zarcone was found unconscious after the crash, and was transported by Northstar EMS to Northstar Health System for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

Sgt. Cross said that icy roads and speeds too fast for conditions contributed to the crash. Zarcone had not been drinking and was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, he added.
