IRON MOUNTAIN - Elizabeth "Betty" Formolo, 80, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Hyland Nursing Home in Iron Mountain.
She was born on July 13, 1932, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Gordon and Theresa (Kleim) Shultz. Betty has been a resident of this area for most of her life and was a graduate of Iron Mountain High School in 1950.
Betty was married to Paul Formolo for more than 30 years until Paul preceded her in death in 2002. She worked more than 35 years for Michigan Bell and retired as a manager for the phone company in 1987. Betty has been an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church and her community. She was a member of the choir, Ruth Circle and United Methodist Women of the the church and also a member of the Telephone Pioneers, Smile-A-While Singers, Dickinson County Community Chorus, the Joycrafters, and the Amidon Follies. Betty enjoyed knitting, crafting and square dancing as well as volunteering at area nursing homes.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Betty was dearly loved and will be missed by family and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Shultz; a sister, Jean Shultz-Witte and a nephew, Al Witte.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. 11, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Kevin Sullivan will officiate.
Burial will be in Cemetery Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a local charity in her memory.
