CRIVITZ, Wis. - Danny Jones and Shawn Paulson each went undefeated for Florence at the Crivitz wrestling duals Saturday.
The Bobcats, winners of this meet a year ago, wound up fourth out of six teams at the seasoning opening meet.
"The addition of Amherst and most teams filling their rosters provided a much more difficult tournament this year," Florence coach Jerry Paulson said.
Jones, wrestling at 113 pounds, was 5-0 with one pin. Paulson, 120 pounds, also went 5-0, scoring two pins.
Andrew Kelley (126), John Lemanski (132), Ethan Brown (145) and Cole Dollar (170), all produced 4-1 records. Dollar had four pins, while Brown and Lemanski each had two. Kelley recorded one pin.
Tom Lindow (220) notched three wins with one pin. Garrett Gollakner (285) had two wins and a pin, and Chris Jeffords (138), Morgan Counter (152), Anthony Kligis (152) and Jeremy Schalow (160) also posted single victories.
Florence wrestling shows 16 athletes on its roster this season. The group includes 12 returners, four of whom qualified for sectionals last season. Those are Paulson, Kelley, Dollar and Lindow. Dollar is also a former state qualifier.
The Bobcats finished second in the Northern Lakes Conference and were 8-8 in duals las year.
While the Bobcats did lose a sectional qualifier to graduation in Zac Jones, Paulson believes he has the numbers and experience to compete this season.
"Eight seniors and possibly filling all our weight classes should make us a threat for the conference and, even, possibly the regional titles," he said. "Other (league) contenders will be Crandon and Three Lakes, which both return solid teams again this year."
Shane McLain assists Paulson this season.
