IM gives Houghton a fight

Gerhard scores 14, but Mountaineers defeated 36-29

IRON MOUNTAIN - Iron Mountain battled Houghton to the end, falling 36-29 in non-conference girls basketball Friday.

The Mountaineers were led by Abby Gerhard with 14 points, eight rebounds and six steals.

Iron Mountain trailed 25-13 at halftime but outscored the Gremlins 18-11 in the second half.

"The girls played as hard as they could," said Iron Mountain coach John Hogberg. "I'm proud of their effort. We were right there."

Elisa Jurmu paced Houghton with 15 points.

Morgan Bujold netted five points for the Mountaineers and Kristen Gendron added four.

Iron Mountain captured the jayvee game, 62-32, led by 15 points from Cassie Feira and 12 from Lil Khor.

The Mountaineers (0-2) host West Iron in a non-conference game Tuesday.
