Several hurt in Breitung crash

QUINNESEC - Several people were injured in a two-vehicle crash that occurred at the intersection of U.S. 141 and Lincoln Avenue in Quinnesec on Sunday morning.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Iron Mountain Post were dispatched to the accident at approximately 8:20 a.m.

Police said a vehicle driving west on Lincoln Avenue failed to yield the right-of-way and crossed into the path of a vehicle traveling south on U.S. 141 and was struck broadside.

Both drivers and several passengers were brought by ambulance to the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries.

Breitung Township Fire Chief Jeff Iverson said the department was paged to the two-vehicle accident at 8:25 a.m. Sunday.

East Kingsford and Breitung stations responded to the scene for patient triage, clean-up and traffic control, along with the Iron Mountain Police Department, Kingsford Public Safety, and the Dickinson County Sheriff's Department.

Iverson added that Beacon Ambulance responded with four ambulances, along with an ambulance from Niagara.

Breitung Township Firefighters cleared the scene at 9:05 a.m. Iverson said this was the first accident at this intersection since April when the Michigan Department of Transportation moved the white strips on the pavement.

The victims' conditions were not available

Assisting at the scene were the Iron Mountain Police Department, Kingsford Public Safety, the Dickinson County Sheriff's Department, as well as Beacon Ambulance and the Breitung Township Fire Department.
