HOUGHTON - A 22-year-old man from the state of Washington has been arrested in Houghton County for charges related to a vehicle chase.

The incident started at about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday in the village of Calumet.

Deputies from the Houghton County Sheriff's Department said that they responded to Harters Party Store to assist Calumet police officers in investigating an attempted breaking and entering.

While attempting to locate a suspect, deputies obtained information from a concerned citizen that a silver mini-van was driving erratically on North Tamarack Road in Calumet Township. Deputies believed that the mini-van was connected to the breaking and entering incident.

Deputies said that once they located the vehicle, they tried to stop it, but a chase ensued.

The driver of the vehicle eventually stopped at the intersection of North Tamarack Road and M-203 in Calumet Township, deputies added.

Deputies then determined that the mini-van had been taken from a nearby business.

The suspect was arrested for fleeing and eluding, unlawful driving away of a motor vehicle, and operating while intoxicated.

Assisting at the scene were the Michigan State Police, Calumet Village Police Department, and the Lake Linden Police Department.

The incident remains under investigation.
