KINGSFORD - Violet M. Weiser, 84, of Kingsford, passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 5, 2012 at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
She was born on May 5, 1928, in Iron Mountain, the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Auger) Merzlak. She was a lifetime area resident, growing up in Iron Mountain and residing in Kingsford.
Vi was a graduate of Iron Mountain High School, class of 1946, and was married to the late Robert Weiser for 65 years. She was also a longtime member of the American Martyrs Catholic Church of Kingsford.
She was an avid bridge player and loved to spend time with her bridge friends. For fun, she enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and crocheting and knitting afghans. Her favorite thing was teaching her grandchildren how to do these things as well. She absolutely loved when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren stopped by to visit.
Vi was preceded in death by her father and mother, Joseph and Rose Merzlak; her husband, Robert Weiser; two brothers, Kenneth (Nancy) Merglak, and Dudley Merzlak; and a brother-in-law, George Divine.
She is survived by her two daughters, Debra Kops of Minnesota and Jodi (John) Wickman of Kingsford; three grandchildren, Kara Schiefelbein (Sid Rioux), Justin Wickman, and Josh Wickman (Courtnee Pultz); three great-grandchildren, Meghan Bergum, Carson Anderson, and Emma Wickman; two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Divine and Sue Merzlak; and many nieces and nephews.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at American Martyrs Catholic Church. Father Joe will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial followed by a time of sharing in the Father Hughes Hall at the church.
