IRON MOUNTAIN - Even though Election Day is only a few days away, Gary McDowell, Democratic candidate for Michigan's First Congressional District seat, is still busy on the campaign trail.

McDowell stopped at the Democratic Headquarters in Iron Mountain on Friday to speak with area residents.

"We're in the final stretch here," he said. "It's all going to come down to voter turnout - you're the ones who are going to make a difference, not just for myself, but for all the working men and women in this district."

McDowell added that, if elected, he will fight to protect the Great Lakes and Medicare, which are two issues that he feels incumbent Congressman Dan Benishek (R-Crystal Falls) has failed at.

A farmer and small businessman from Rudyard, McDowell has also served as a Chippewa County Commissioner and Michigan State Representative for the 107th district.
