Faye Dykstra

IRON MOUNTAIN - Faye E. Dykstra, 88, of Iron Mountain, passed away Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.

She was born Sept. 10, 1924, in Kingsford, daughter of the late William and Emma (Neils) Dykstra. Faye grew up in Kingsford and attended Kingsford High School, graduating in 1942. She went on to attend Northern Michigan University and received her bachelor's degree in teaching in 1951. In 1967, she received her master's in education from Northern Michigan.

Faye taught school in Foster City, Gwinn, Ironwood, and finally in Iron Mountain where she taught for 35 years, retiring in 1986.

She was a very active member of the Immanuel Baptist Church, now Redemption Hill Church, where she served on the Mission Committee, taught Sunday school, was active at the Vacation Bible School, and the AWANA Children's Club, as well as could be found singing in the choir.

She was a member of many organizations including American Association of University Women (AAUW), Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Iron Mountain-Kingsford Christian Women's Club, Iron Mountain-Kingsford GFWC, and the MARSP Retired School Personnel.

Faye enjoyed sewing, reading, and was an active volunteer at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital for several years.

She is survived by four sisters, Betty VanNess of Kingsford, Elaine Divine of Breitung Township, Johanna (Steve) Cuggino of Norway, and Darlene Clash of Pinecrest in Powers; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Harold, and Edwin Dykstra and three sisters, Margaret LaLonde, Wilma Rogers, and Delores Quick.

Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Redemption Hill Church in Kingsford.

The memorial service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. Ron Wolfe will officiate. Burial will be in Quinnesec Cemetery.
