KINGSFORD - Six graduates of Kingsford High School were recipients of the Alumni & Friends Scholarships receiving awards of $1,300 each.
The scholarship program started in 1983 with one $500 award, and has grown throughout the years totaling more than $100,000 being presented to 67 students since 2000.
The recipients from the class of 2012 were Rachel Condray, daughter of Dana Condray; Libby DeClark, daughter of Todd and Joan DeClark attending Lakeland College; Ashley Giguere, daughter of John and Sandy Giguere attending Concordia University-Wisconsin; Matthew Larson, son of Christine Larson and Bryan Larson, attending Saginaw Valley State University; Darin Martin, son of Donald and Kelly Martin, attending the University of Michigan; and Jonathan Mitchell, son of Dr. Daniel and Carol Mitchell, attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The Alumni & Friends of KHS Scholarship fund is maintained and increased through donations/memorials, cash register receipts collected from Super One Foods and Econo Foods, and an annual bake sale at the fall parent-teacher conferences. Only the interest from the fund is used each year.
The fall conference this year will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 24. Prior recipients of the scholarship and their parents are encouraged to help contribute to the bake sale. All items should be brought to the KHS principal's office by noon on Oct. 24.
Any donations to the scholarship fund can be sent to the Breitung Township superintendent's office, 2000 Pyle Drive, Kingsford, MI 49802 in care of the KHS Alumni and Friends Scholarship.
