IRON MOUNTAIN - A 34-year-old Iron Mountain man is facing a felonious assault charge and unlawful imprisonment.
Preston Tremayne Bennett is charged with unlawful imprisonment, assault with a dangerous weapon (felonious assault), and habitual offender, third offense notice.
According to the felony complaint, on Aug. 4, Bennett ordered a woman to come home immediately. Once she came home, he pulled out a chair, ordered her to sit in the chair and retrieved a baseball bat.
He questioned her about infidelity and when he did not like her answers, he struck her in the face with his open hand hard enough to knock her out of her chair, the complaint alleges.
The felony complaint said he beat her with the bat as she lay on the ground. The woman tried to run out of the door, but he had it locked from the outside with a padlock.
He then ordered her into a bedroom where he shut the door, stood in front of it and held the bat, hitting it to his hand.
The woman had multiple injuries including bruising on her stomach/ribs, bruising on her left leg and a bruise near her eyelid, according to the report.
Arraignment is set for Oct. 1 at 9 a.m. before Judge Richard Celello.
