IRON MOUNTAIN - On June 22-24, the IMHS class of 1957 celebrated their 55-year reunion with three days of activities.
Classmates, spouses, and guests met on Friday evening at the Pine Mountain Resort to renew friendships and share memories.
An assortment of hors d oeuvres were served and enjoyed by all. A DVD was shown of classmates involved in their high school classes, sports, and clubs. Bocce teams were selected for the bocce event on Saturday.
On Saturday afternoon, at 1 p.m., eight teams representing cities of Italy competed in groups A and B. The finalist in group A of four teams was Milan and in group B was Naples. Naples was the winner of the roll-off.
Members on the first place trophy winners were Frank Palluconi, Paul Mortensen, Greta Michaud, and Donna Spigarelli. Members of the second place trophy winners were Al Spigarelli, Ellen Roberts, Jeanette Morelli, and Hank Michaud.
At 6 p.m. on Saturday, classmates, spouses, and guests met at the Elks Club for a social hour and dinner. Don Antonetti presented the program for the evening which included a survey of the group entitled "You know you are getting old when ... 20 situations that people 65-75 years of age would experience and a case of miscommunication between a contractor and his client."
Clyde Unger provided information on how the glider was rebuilt and how the glider museum became a reality. The evening concluded with Roger Pedo playing DVDs with music from the '50s and '60s.
On Sunday morning at 10, classmates, spouses, and guests were present at the Elks Club for a memorial service, conducted by Barbara Winkler, for their senior class advisor, John Tabaka, and 28 of their classmates. A candle was lit as each name was read and remained lit throughout the breakfast buffet.
The end of the three-day celebration was highlighted by the traditional release of gold and black balloons in memory of their deceased classmates.
Everyone enjoyed attending their choice of the three days of activities and are looking to the 60 year reunion in 2017. The committee was commended for its work in putting on a successful reunion.
