IRON MOUNTAIN - The Midtown Mall in Iron Mountain will host its monthly Veterans' Appreciation Day on Wednesday, Aug. 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The mall has this day set aside each month as an opportunity for veterans and their families to visit and speak with local veteran organization representatives.
On this day, donations for the Eric Palmisano Care Package Project are also being accepted.
"The Midtown Mall understands that the recent deployment of the local 1432nd Engineering Company, National Guard Unit affects many local families," a spokesperson said.
The mall has committed space for the drop off of non-perishable food items and all types of personal and hygiene items to be sent to the 1432nd ENCO.
All items that are collected on Aug. 8, Veterans' Appreciation Day, will be sent to this one local Engineering Company.
The 1432nd ENCO is in need of a multitude of items as the general store in their area of Afghanistan is extremely limited.
The Midtown Mall is also displaying the personal radio controlled World War II fighter planes of World War II Army Infantry Serviceman Valentino DeRossi.
DeRossi is also available throughout the day to speak with veterans and peruse his extensive personal World War II memorabilia collection.
The local Veterans of Foreign Wars Iraq and Afghanistan Memorial Wall is also on display at the mall.
Some of the mall stores also have military discounts available.
The mall remains committed to our local past and present veterans and their families. The community is encouraged to come and contribute to the Palmisano Care Package Project and take the opportunity to thank a local veteran for their service.
