Fortner also made the defensive play of the game from shortstop, diving to rob Quentin Ackerman of a base hit in the first inning.

Ackerman and Matt Berglund pitched for North.

Kingsford scored four runs in the first inning, five in the second and one in the fourth to end the elimination bracket game.

Once-beaten Kingsford and unbeaten Norway will collide at 6 p.m. Saturday at Barkle Field. A Kingsford win would force another title game Sunday.

District champion moves on to the state tournament at West Branch.
