CRYSTAL FALLS - Kathleen "Kitty" Dion, 90, went to her eternal rest on Thursday, June 28, 2012, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility.
She was born in Crystal Falls on March 8, 1922, the daughter of the late John and Helen (Hronkin) Macurak. She graduated from Crystal Falls High School in 1941 and tended bar in several area establishments, most notably the Shamrock Bar and Lanes of Gaastra.
She married Didace "Dean" Dion, iron ore miner and member of the U. S. Merchant Marine, on Jan. 30, 1943. After her husband became a United Steel Worker organizer, the couple resided in Ironwood and Caspian, and then for 29 years in Mahtomedi, Minn. After her husband's death on Oct. 28, 1986, she returned to the Crystal Falls area in 1992.
Kitty had been a member of the Guardian Angels adult choir. She enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, cooking, playing cards, picking blueberries, and watching her favorite soap operas, game shows, beauty pageants and Green Bay Packer football on television.
She is survived by her son, Randy Dion of Crystal Falls; daughter, Kathy Guertin of Taylor, Texas; granddaughters, Kasja (Ramie) Larson of Franktown, Colo., and Jaci (Alexander) Turner of Arvada, Colo.; great-grandchildren, Thane and Kayanna Lason and Keeli Turner; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Joseph, George, John, Edward, and Sam Macurak and six sisters, Mary and Ann Macurak, Marian Reynolds, Eleanor and Jane McCole and Helen Harvey.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. from Guardian Angels Church in Crystal Falls. Fr. Jeffrey Kurtz will offer the Mass of the Christian Burial.
Burial will be in the Stambaugh Cemetery.
A time of sharing and celebration of Kitty's life will take place immediately following the Mass in the Guardian Angels Parish Hall.
