Youth football:Equipment day

IRON MOUNTAIN - Equipment distribution for participants of the Central U.P. Youth Football League will take place Saturday, July 14, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the storage building on Hemlock St. near Mountaineer Stadium. Another equipment handout will take place Saturday, July 21, from 9 a.m. to noon. See www.centralupyouthfootball.org for more information.

Highland golf:Drees crowned

HYDE - Tim Drees of Menominee drained a 10-foot birdie putt on the 45th hole to win the Highland Open men's golf tournament for the second time.

Drees finished at 172 (72-67-33), followed by Ron Sintowski of Marquette, 173 (70-68-35); Matt Argall of Gladstone, 174 (73-68-33); Casey Schmidt of Menominee, 175 (69-70-36) and Casey VanDamme of Knoxville, Tenn., 176 (71-70-35).

Defending champion Mike Nagy of Manistique bogied the final two holes and posted a 177 (73-68-36).

Running:Pembine event

PEMBINE, Wis. - The second annual Pembine Community Run, offering a 5K race and unique medals, will take place Saturday, Aug. 4, at Pembine American Legion Park (Minnie & Willis St.).

Proceed go to the Pembine-Goodman Patriots high school cross country team.
