Kingsford major softball bows to Gladstone, 7-4
GLADSTONE - Kingsford, victimized by two fifth-inning errors, bowed out of the Little League Major (age 12-under) softball district with a 7-4 loss to Gladstone on Saturday.
"The girls played a great game," said manager Penny Dober, noting Kingsford held a 4-3 lead entering the bottom of the fifth inning.
Gladstone utilized four hits and two errors to plate four runs in the fifth inning.
"Cierra Dober pitched a great game," said the manager of the Kingsford starter who walked just one.
Molly Wahoviak pitched part of the fifth inning and struck out one.
Wahoviak collected a pair of Kingsford hits; Tori Walters and Abby Tomososki each had one with an RBI, and Sierra Fortner added a hit and a steal.
"Coaches from the other teams commented on how Kingsford was coming along with their softball program," manager Dober said. "The girls played so well they should be holding their heads up high. By no means was it an easy win for Gladstone.
"I am grateful I had the chance to be a part of the All-Stars this year."
She also expressed appreciation to coaches Joe Kriegl and Derek Fortner.
