IRON MOUNTAIN - The Dickinson County Library has announced three upcoming events.
The library will host a teen read-in challenge on Monday, July 9 at 3 p.m. at the Norway Library. Tweens and teens are invited to "speed-date" with a variety of new and fan-favorite books, and then choose one to "date" for the day.
Teens can also bring the books they're currently reading in order to bank minutes toward their Summer Reading totals.
This program is open to teens and tweens in grades 4 and up, and is sponsored by Dr. Nagaraju and Rupa Choragudi.
Randy Brunjuns will present a program on owls on Tuesday, July 10 at 11 a.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.
This program will feature four live owls of various species and will go in depth about their unique qualities. Following the presentation, kids will have the opportunity to dissect actual owl pellets and compare their findings to illustrated bone charts.
Kids of all ages are eligible to attend the program. Pre-registration is required for the owl pellet dissection, and is limited to kids in grades 1-5.
This program is sponsored by Dr. and Mrs. Dale Shampo.
Erv Barnes will present a program that marries the written word with therapy techniques on Thursday, July 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.
Barnes, a Vietnam veteran, will speak on how writing can be used as a therapeutic technique for dealing with post-traumatic stress. This program is perfect for those who would like to include writing in their own stress-management routine, or would like to know more about post-traumatic stress and how to cope with it.
