IRON MOUNTAIN - The Dickinson County Sheriff's Department is investigating the removal of cats, dogs and horses from a residence in Iron Mountain and a property in Sagola Township.
Undersheriff Scott Rutter said the sheriff's department assisted Iron Mountain authorities with the removal of 14 dogs and 15 cats. The department is also working with the DeYoung Family Zoo in Wallace and local and state veterinarians on the removal of approximately 30 horses from Sagola Township.
"Several dogs and cats have already been placed at the animal shelter, and our office is working with several individuals for the removal of approximately 30 horses," Rutter said.
Prior to the horses being placed in another location, they must have blood work done. A local and state veterinarian are assisting in that process.
"Once the horses are cleared, they will be placed," Rutter said.
To adopt any of the dogs or cats that have been placed at the shelter, contact the shelter at (906) 774-1005.
Rutter added the investigation is far from complete, and it is unknown if charges against the owner will be forthcoming.
"Obviously, there were too many animals, and the conditions were not very tidy," he said.
