Margaret Osier

NIAGARA, Wis. - Margaret Elaine Osier, 95, of Niagara, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Maryhill Manor in Niagara.

She was born Dec. 20, 1916, in Ishpeming, daughter of the late Ulrich and Helen (Murphy) Vigneau. Elaine graduated at the age of 16 from Niagara High School and went on to complete her certificate in cosmetology. She was the owner of a successful beauty salon in Niagara, where she employed her two younger sisters.

Elaine married Kenneth A. Osier on Nov. 22, 1945, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Niagara. Together, they raised five children. For many years, Elaine was a devoted homemaker. She was employed for about 15 years as a teller at the First National Bank of Niagara.

In addition to her family and employment, Elaine supported the Niagara community as a scout leader for both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Auxiliary and the Christian Mothers Guild of St. Anthony's parish.

Elaine is survived by three daughters, Mary Osier of Plover, Wis., Helene (Jack) Frye-Osier of Verona, Wis., and Colleen (Bruce Morstad) Osier of Amasa; one son, Tom Osier of Iron Mountain; one daughter-in-law, Darlene Osier of Iron River; two sisters, Helen Steinke of Sullivan, Wis. and Bernice Boerner of Elm Grove, Wis.; seven grandchildren, Kenneth (Audra) Franz, Bradley (Susan) Franz, Jamie (Gretchen) Carlson, Jennifer Osier, Jon (Shannon) Osier, Phil (Karla) Morstad, Chris (Kari) Morstad; nine great-grandsons; three great-granddaughters; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and kind spirit. Elaine loved her family and friends and greatly appreciated the support she received in the past five years from the caring staff members of Evergreen Assisted Living in Kingsford and Maryhill Manor in Niagara. We are thankful for the gift of Mom's presence in our lives. May our sorrow and sadness turn to memories of her goodness and love.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 51 years, Kenneth A. Osier; one son, Kenneth J. Osier; and two brothers, Edmund Vigneau and Daniel Vigneau.

Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Niagara.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. Matt Settle will officiate.

The St. Anthony Council of Catholic Women will offer a memorial service at the church.

Burial will be in Niagara Cemetery in Niagara.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in Elaine's name to Karen's Pantry, The Salvation Army, or the Niagara High School Scholarship Fund.
