Little League dilemma

Three Major baseball teams to decide title

June 26, 2012

IRON MOUNTAIN - Iron Mountain North Little League will settle a unique situation Wednesday.

Three Major baseball teams - North Dickinson, Rotary and UCT - ended the regular season with five losses each.

"Normally we would then go head to head to determine the champion," said a league official. "But UCT has beaten North Dickinson three times, Rotary has beaten UCT three times and UCT has beaten North Dickinson three times. So there is no clear champion."

Iron Mountain North Little League's board of directors voted to use a round robin "speed game" procedure to decide the 2012 regular season champion.

The championship will be determined beginning at 5 tonight at Larry Barkle Eastside Field.

Winner will represent Iron Mountain North in Little League's Bill Dixon Tournament of Champions series beginning Thursday at Larry Barkle Eastside Field. Kingsford and Norway league champs clash at 5:30 p.m. in the first semifinal and Iron Mountain North takes on Iron County in the second semifinal at 7:30 p.m.

Tournament concludes Friday, with the consolation game at 5:30 p.m. and championship at 7:30 p.m.
