Illinois man wins Keyes Peak 50K

FLORENCE, Wis. - Tara Beveroth of Champaign, Ill., and Steve English of St. Paul, Minn., topped the 50KM participants in the third annual Keyes Peak Trail Run on Saturday.

Beveroth posted a time of 5 hours, 9 minutes to best runner-up Kathleen Weiland of Belgium, Wis. (5:09.49).

English won the men's 50KM in 3:56.38. Nathan Campeau of Minneapolis took second in 4:16.25. Iron Mountain's Jason Duelge finished eighth (4:47.53).

In the marathon, Kate Pallardy of New York City (3:38.23) claimed top honors over Lisa Trainor of Maple Grove, Minn. (3:58.04). Iron Mountain's Leanna Kligis wound up ninth (5:36.15).

Adam Martin of Wausau (3:04.47) captured the men's marathon title, with Austin Gabrielson of Kewaunee taking second (3:21.39).

Iron River's "Steady Freddy" Jacobs, back running after a year off, finished seventh (4:01.02).

"My goal was four hours so I was a minute too slow," Jacobs said. "Must have been that swim across the Pine River."

Keyes Peak Trail Run takes participants through forests, open meadows and river valley.

In the 10K, Cheryl Corbeille of Black Creek (55:15) bested Christy Boettcher of Florence (56.26).

Ron Hayes of Oshkosh was the men's winner (48.20) over Brandon Rutter of Kingsford (50:28).
