NIAGARA, Wis.- John Waldron Burbey, 86, of Niagara, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at Maryhill Manor in Niagara after a long illness.
He was born Jan. 12, 1926, in Milwaukee, son of the late Dr. Prosper and Inez (Waldron) Burbey.
John married Marjorie Hendricks on Jan. 12, 1944, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 5, 2008.

John graduated from Niagara High School, Class of 1944. He and Marjorie raised their family in the Niagara area. John worked at the Niagara Paper Mill until he retired after 43 years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, training dogs, camping, and Packer parties with friends. John was a member of Riverside Methodist Church in Niagara. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and a life member of the Kingsford Beagle Club. He served in the Merchant Marines and the Army during World War II.
John is survived by two sons, Dr. Mark (Kim) Burbey of Neenah, Wis. and Brian Burbey of Omro, Wis.; six grandchildren, Mark Burbey II, Patrick Ponzio, Nicole (Ponzio) Ralph, Megan (Burbey) Kozelek, Gavin Burbey, and Britan (Burbey) Jacques; seven great-grandchildren, Alex, Katie, and Olivia Ralph, Kyan and Kenna Ponzio, Valerie Jacques, and Kendal Kozelek; one sister, Marni (Dr. Robert) Feulner; two brothers, Michael (Judy) Burbey and David (Suzanne) Burbey; one son-in-law, Danny Steeno; one brother-in-law, James (Nyna) Hendricks; two sisters-in-law, Jeanne Hendricks, Nyna Hendricks; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, John was preceded in death by two daughters, Rosalie Ponzio and Laura Steeno; six sisters-in-law and seven brothers-in-law, Elizabeth and Eldon Becker, Commodore and Janet Hendricks, Kenneth Hendricks, August and Madeline Hendricks, Henry and Lydia Hendricks, Ruth and Jesse Phillips, and Joyce and Duane Smith.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Maryhill Manor for the care they provided John over the past year and a half and also a special thank you to Allyn (Kleiber) Neff for her special care and dedication to both John and Marge over a 10 year period.
Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home Niagara Chapel.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Jim Paige will officiate.
The American Legion Cretton-Tutas Post 136 of Niagara will accord military honors at graveside.
Burial will be in Niagara Cemetery in Niagara.
