The Daily News

HARMONY, Wis. -Home gardens are a source of nutritious, great-tasting vegetables, as well as a great family activity. Gardeners that pay attention to detail can really maximize the quality and quantity of fresh produce they are able to harvest.

UW-Extension of Marinette County invites all gardeners to a free vegetable management workshop being held today at the Harmony Arboretum demonstration gardens, starting at 6:30 p.m.

UW-Extension Horticulture Agent Scott Reuss will demonstrate and discuss the management practices that gardeners can use to get the most out of their garden spaces.

In particular, he will concentrate on nutrient, water, and pest management, but will also be detailing proper plant spacing, trellising, and other cultural plant management techniques. Attendees are encouraged to bring samples of the problems that are currently showing up in their gardens, as well.

The Harmony Arboretum demonstration gardens are located on Marinette County Highway E, seven miles west of Marinette. All persons are welcome to attend this free seminar.

If you have any questions, contact Scott or Linda at the UW-Extension office, (715) 732-7510 or toll-free at 1-877-884-4408.

A schedule of the rest of the events which will take place during 2012 at the Harmony Arboretum can be found at under the horticulture link, along with lots of other horticultural information.
