FELCH - New for the summer, North Dickinson County School's Elementary Library will be open.
The library will be staffed by many volunteers from the school, including staff and students. Hours will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
"If your child struggles with reading, please come and take advantage of this wonderful opportunity. Many volunteers will be here to work with your child," school officials said. "If your child enjoys reading, we will be here to help supervise or answer any questions they may have."
Compelling research shows that the most successful way to improve reading achievement levels among children is to increase their access to books - at home, in school and over the summer months.
All children need a large variety of engaging, high quality books to read. Unfortunately, many young people experience learning losses when they do not engage in educational activities during the summer months.
"We here at North Dickinson would like to change that by providing a space and an opportunity for students, along with their parents, to come relax, enjoy a few hours of reading, socializing, and just enjoy this wonderful library and all it has to offer," school officials said.
There will also be games, crafts, age appropriate book lists, and staff to help with any other subjects students might be struggling in or just have questions about.
"We encourage the community to stop in and be involved. We would like to motivate older readers and show the younger children that they are fully supported by their entire community," school officials said. "Hopefully this will show that reading and education goes beyond the classroom."
