KINGSFORD - The Dickinson-Iron-Menominee Math Science Center will host the 2012 "Summer Science Camp" at the Willis Center. This is the 19th year the camps are being offered.
Registration has officially opened. Brochures have been distributed to all area school districts. If your child did not receive one, there is an online brochure at www.diisd.org. Please register for the grade the child will be attending in the fall.
Each session is staffed by a certified teacher and a student teacher aide. Each age group, kindergarten through the eighth grade, will have a separate week to attend with a limit of 20 children for each camp.
For the younger grades, students can sign up for either a morning or afternoon session. Participants for Summer Science Camp are on a first-come-first-serve basis.
The schedule for this summer is as follows:
June 18-22: second grade, "Swamp Madness, Tangles and Tracks"
June 25-29: third grade, "Birds, Bones, Beaks, and Feathers"
July 9-13: fourth grade, "At the Scene of the Crime"
July 16-20: seventh and eighth Grade, "Rockets and Astronomy"
July 23 27: sixth grade, "Crazy Chemistry"
July 30 Aug 3: first grade, "Butterflies and Moths"
Aug. 6-9: kindergarten, "What's the Buzz"
August 6-10: grades sixth to eighth, "VEX Robotics"
August 13-17: grade 5, "Movement: Magnets, Motors, and Motion"
Camps for the students entering sixth, seventh and eighth grades are all day (9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) all other camps run either morning (9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.) or afternoon (12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.). Parents should indicate which session they prefer.
The camp fees are $50. for a half-day camp session and $65 for full day sessions. The camp for VEX Robotics and Movement: Magnets, Motors and Motion will be held at the Technical Education Center located at 300 North Blvd. in Kingsford.
