IRON MOUNTAIN - Kingsford, dominating the four relay events, swept Iron Mountain in a high school track & field meet Thursday at Mountaineer Stadium.

Four firsts from Carlee Benzie propelled the Flivver girls past the Mountaineers 76-58. Kingsford boys, with two individual wins apiece from Nick Maycunich and Cole Tengesdahl, downed Iron Mountain 103-34.

"Our relay teams performed well," Flivver coach Lisa Harry said. "I'm really pleased with their performances."

Benzie won the long jump (16-feet-5.5), 100-meter dash (13.32), 200 (27.84) and ran on the victorious 800 relay (1:52.90).

"Carlee had an outstanding day," Harry said.

The Flivver coach also praised Emma Williams for three relay firsts and a second in 100; Andrea Roell for three relay firsts and a second in 400, and Hannah Allen for winning the 800 (2:45.98), helping out on the 3200 relay and taking second in 1600.

Iron Mountain's Sarah Girard swept the 100 hurdles (17.50) and 300 hurdles (53.01), but the Flivver coach also cited the second and third-place challenges from freshmen Jaelyn Jennings and Sydney Warren.

"The freshmen did a great job against a top-notch hurdler in Sarah Girard," Harry said.

Jennings also claimed pole vault (6-6) honors.

"We made some changes in this meet and went from non-competitive to competitive," Harry said, "I think we're starting to come together and right before regionals. We'll have some better lane assignments for regionals (after this meet)."

Hannah Tresedder tacked on two firsts in high jump (4-6) and 3200 relay with a second in 800.

Mountaineers added another double from Katie Lusardi in 3200 (13:30.46) and 1600 (6:02.03).

The Flivver boys also tuned up for Thursday's MHSAA Division 1 regionals at Negaunee.

"Overall, good team win," Flivver coach Doug Roberts said. "Our times are getting better which is nice to see coming into the regional."

Maycunich cleared the 110 hurdles in 16.07 and the 300 in 43.20. Tengesdahl tallied the 100 (11.41) and 200 (23.82) along with the winning 400 relay and 800 relay.

Iron Mountain's Dan Kulas captured the 1600 (4:51.58) and 3200 (11:32.81).

Kingsford Invitational takes place Tuesday at Flivver Field. Mountaineer girls are aiming for a fourth straight title while the Flivver boys have won the past two.
